UK’s FCA Selects 4 Firms To Trial Stablecoins Ahead Of Final 2026 Rules

  vor 6 Monaten

UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced the four firms chosen to test stablecoin services in its regulatory sandbox program. FCA’s Sandbox Will Shape UK’s Stablecoin Rules Later In 2026 In a new announcement , the FCA has revealed the four companies that are part of the regulator’s stablecoin sandbox program. This sandbox will trial stablecoin-related products in a safe environment under proposed regulatory rules. The FCA first launched a special cohort called the “stablecoins cohort” for its regulatory sandbox back in November 2025. “The stablecoins cohort is part of our commitment to supporting growth and innovation in UK financial services,” noted the statement. The UK regulator took applications from companies between November 26th and January 18th to become members of the cohort. 20 firms applied and now, the FCA has announced the results. Monee Financial Technologies, ReStabilise, Revolut, and VVTX are the four companies selected by the regulator to test how their services and products would work with proposed regulation. “It will help the FCA assess its proposed policy in a live environment and ensure future rules are clear, effective and support responsible innovation,” explained the FCA. The proposals of the four firms cover a range of stablecoin use cases, including payments, wholesale settlement, and trading, but FCA’s sandbox will mainly focus on the issuance of these fiat-tied tokens. “We are supporting UK stablecoin issuers to ensure they can be trusted for payments, settlement and trading,” said Matthew Long, director of payments and digital assets at the FCA. According to the announcement, UK’s sandbox testing will begin in the first quarter of 2026, with the findings helping mold the country’s final stablecoin rules later in the year. The UK isn’t the only country that has been making progress on regulation related to this class of cryptocurrencies. Last year, President Donald Trump signed on the GENIUS Act , providing a regulatory framework for stablecoins in the United States. Over in Asia, Hong Kong put into legislation its stablecoin bill in August, while South Korea’s bill is pending debut as policymakers debate issuance models, with the country’s central bank advocating for bank-only won tokens. The legislative momentum around the world has meant that fiat-pegged digital assets have been gaining more adoption. Japan observed the launch of its first yen token last year. Meanwhile, in Europe, twelve major banks have come together to form a consortium aimed at launching a euro-tied stablecoin in the second half of 2026. Currently, the sector is heavily dominated by USD coins, so the consortium plans to challenge the hegemony with a real European alternative. Bitcoin Price At the time of writing, Bitcoin is floating around $69,500, up 4% in the last seven days.

South Korean Crypto Regulations Face Fierce Criticism: Experts Warn of Industry Collapse

  vor 6 Monaten

BitcoinWorld South Korean Crypto Regulations Face Fierce Criticism: Experts Warn of Industry Collapse SEOUL, South Korea – February 2025: Legal scholars and academic experts across South Korea are delivering scathing critiques of proposed cryptocurrency regulations, warning that restrictive measures could trigger industrial decline and prolonged legal battles as the nation prepares for its landmark Digital Asset Basic Act. The controversy centers on ownership caps for virtual asset exchanges and stringent stablecoin controls that experts argue misunderstand fundamental market dynamics. South Korean Crypto Regulations Spark Industry Concerns South Korea’s financial authorities face mounting opposition to their proposed regulatory framework for digital assets. The controversy emerged during a pivotal policy debate hosted by lawmakers Kim Sang-hoon and Min Byoung-dug on February 26. Legal experts immediately questioned the regulatory approach, particularly its application of traditional securities exchange rules to fundamentally different cryptocurrency platforms. Attorney Jeong Jae-wook of Joowon Law Firm presented a compelling argument against the proposed ownership restrictions. He emphasized that cryptocurrency exchanges operate without member securities firms, making Korea Exchange regulations fundamentally incompatible. The private sector would face significant barriers to innovation under such constraints. Consequently, South Korea risks falling behind global competitors in blockchain development. The proposed regulations include several controversial elements: Ownership caps limiting control of virtual asset exchanges Stablecoin issuance restrictions to bank-led consortiums Enhanced reporting requirements exceeding global standards Capital requirements potentially excluding smaller innovators Digital Asset Basic Act Implementation Timeline South Korea’s legislative journey toward comprehensive cryptocurrency regulation began in 2023 with initial proposals. The National Assembly formed a special committee in early 2024 to draft the Digital Asset Basic Act. Public hearings commenced in September 2024, revealing early industry concerns. The current debate represents the final consultation phase before expected enactment in mid-2025. International observers closely monitor South Korea’s regulatory approach. The nation represents one of Asia’s most active cryptocurrency markets. Global standards from jurisdictions like the European Union and Singapore provide contrasting models. South Korean authorities aim to balance innovation with consumer protection, but experts question whether the current proposals achieve this balance effectively. Comparative Regulatory Approaches (2025) Jurisdiction Exchange Regulation Stablecoin Approach Innovation Support South Korea (Proposed) Ownership caps, securities rules Bank consortium requirement Limited European Union MiCA framework, licensing Reserve requirements, issuer authorization Moderate Singapore Risk-based licensing Reserve asset standards Strong Japan Registered exchange system Bank partnership model Moderate Academic Perspectives on Regulatory Overreach Professor Lee Jong-seop from Seoul National University’s College of Business Administration delivered particularly insightful criticism regarding stablecoin regulations. He challenged the fundamental assumption linking ownership structure to financial stability. According to his analysis, no economic correlation exists between a bank’s majority ownership and a stablecoin’s ability to prevent mass withdrawals. The professor noted that while bank control offers supervisory convenience for authorities, market-driven trust mechanisms prove more effective. Historical examples from traditional finance support this perspective. Furthermore, successful global stablecoins operate without such restrictive ownership requirements. The proposed regulations might therefore create artificial barriers without enhancing actual stability. Potential Impacts on South Korea’s Crypto Industry Industry analysts predict several consequences if the current proposals become law. Domestic cryptocurrency exchanges might face consolidation pressures, potentially reducing competition. Foreign investment could decrease as international firms seek more favorable regulatory environments. Innovation in blockchain technology might shift to neighboring jurisdictions with more balanced approaches. The proposed bank consortium requirement for won-denominated stablecoins presents particular challenges. Traditional banks often lack the technical expertise and innovation culture of cryptocurrency-native companies. This mismatch could result in inferior products and delayed market development. Additionally, the 50% plus one share requirement gives banks controlling interest, potentially stifling collaborative innovation. Legal experts anticipate several specific outcomes: Constitutional challenges regarding property rights and business freedom International arbitration cases from affected foreign investors Regulatory fragmentation as companies establish operations abroad Reduced tax revenue from declining industry activity Global Context and Competitive Considerations South Korea’s regulatory decisions occur within a highly competitive global landscape. Singapore has positioned itself as Asia’s cryptocurrency hub through balanced regulation. Japan maintains strict but predictable rules that have fostered industry growth. Hong Kong recently introduced comprehensive frameworks to attract digital asset businesses. The European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation provides another reference point. MiCA establishes harmonized rules across member states while allowing innovation. It focuses on consumer protection and market integrity without imposing ownership restrictions. South Korean experts note that their proposed regulations exceed MiCA’s requirements in several areas, potentially creating competitive disadvantages. Historical Precedents in Financial Regulation Financial historians draw parallels between current cryptocurrency debates and past regulatory challenges. The early internet faced similar regulatory uncertainty before balanced frameworks emerged. Mobile payment systems initially encountered resistance before becoming mainstream financial tools. These examples suggest that premature or overly restrictive regulation can delay beneficial technological adoption. South Korea’s own technology development history offers relevant lessons. The nation’s rapid digital transformation resulted from government support combined with private sector innovation. Early internet and mobile technology policies balanced regulation with encouragement. Current cryptocurrency proposals appear to emphasize control over cultivation, potentially reversing this successful pattern. Technical Implementation Challenges Practical implementation of the proposed regulations presents numerous technical hurdles. Ownership verification for decentralized exchanges proves particularly problematic. These platforms operate without central control, making traditional ownership concepts irrelevant. Regulatory authorities must develop new approaches for these innovative structures. Stablecoin reserve verification requires sophisticated monitoring systems. Traditional banking supervision methods may prove inadequate for real-time cryptocurrency transactions. The proposed bank consortium model adds complexity without necessarily enhancing security. Technical experts suggest alternative approaches focusing on transparency and auditability rather than ownership structure. Key implementation questions remain unanswered: How will authorities verify compliance across decentralized platforms? What technical standards will govern stablecoin reserve management? How will cross-border transactions be monitored and regulated? What appeals processes will address disputed regulatory decisions? Conclusion South Korean crypto regulations face substantial criticism from legal and academic experts who question their fundamental premises and potential consequences. The proposed Digital Asset Basic Act represents a crucial moment for South Korea’s digital economy. Balanced regulation could foster innovation while protecting consumers. However, current proposals risk industrial decline and legal disputes according to expert analysis. The coming months will determine whether authorities incorporate these criticisms into final legislation or proceed with potentially damaging restrictions. Global observers watch closely as South Korea’s decisions will influence cryptocurrency regulation across Asia and beyond. FAQs Q1: What are the main criticisms of South Korea’s proposed crypto regulations? Legal and academic experts argue the regulations misunderstand market dynamics, potentially causing industrial decline. They specifically criticize applying securities exchange rules to crypto platforms and restricting stablecoin issuance to bank consortiums. Q2: When will South Korea’s Digital Asset Basic Act take effect? The Act is expected to be enacted in mid-2025 following current consultations. The legislative process began in 2023, with the National Assembly forming a special committee in early 2024 to draft the legislation. Q3: How do South Korea’s proposed regulations compare to other countries? South Korea’s proposals are more restrictive than the EU’s MiCA framework and Singapore’s risk-based approach. They include unique elements like ownership caps for exchanges and bank consortium requirements for stablecoins not found in other major jurisdictions. Q4: What specific concerns do experts have about stablecoin regulations? Professor Lee Jong-seop notes no economic correlation exists between bank ownership and stablecoin stability. Experts argue market-driven trust mechanisms prove more effective than ownership restrictions for preventing mass withdrawals. Q5: How might these regulations affect South Korea’s position in the global crypto market? Analysts predict reduced foreign investment, industry consolidation, and potential innovation migration to more favorable jurisdictions. South Korea could lose its competitive edge in blockchain technology development if the proposals become law. Uniswap to distribute $27M in fees to UNI holders

  vor 6 Monaten

Uniswap is getting closer to revenue sharing and may add up to $27M in value to UNI holders. The vote on the protocol for fee expansion will run from February 27 to March 1. The Uniswap community will vote on the second part of the fee sharing expansion. The new vote will run from February 27 to March 1 and will enable fee sharing from the protocol’s multi-chain versions. If the proposal is accepted, Uniswap will activate the fee switch on eight L2 chains. The votes will cover fees from Base, OP Mainnet, Arbitrum, Celo, Soneium, Worldchain, X Layer, and Zora. Fee sharing has been one of the leading narratives for Uniswap, leading to previous UNI token rallies . This time, the protocol will tap fees from versions on other chains, bringing up to $27M in additional fees to UNI holders. Based on DeFiLlama data, Uniswap generates a total of over $938M in annualized fees. In Q1, 2026, Uniswap also returned to net earnings, logging $2.75M in net profit, after multiple quarters with a net loss. The venue remains one of the most widely used DeFi markets, working both as a DEX and as a source of significant yields on some of its pools. UNI breaks above $4 As the Uniswap vote was announced, UNI broke out to a one-week peak. The token traded at $4.04, with one of its most significant breakouts in 2026. UNI broke above $4, trading at a one-week high after the second stage of the fee switch vote was launched. | Source: Coingecko UNI has been sliding in the past months, tracking the overall crypto market weakness. However, Uniswap may boost its presence as a platform with regular revenues and net profits, expanding profit sharing through UNI burns. The recent UNI rally added over 15% in a day, showing tokens could still draw liquidity with the right narrative. The token is expected to continue its rally to $4.80 and even recover to $6. UNI still depends heavily on Binance and MEXC, with over 61% of volumes against USDT. The relatively concentrated trading can lead to a short-term pump. UNI burns will increase to boost the token The proposal, once accepted, will take protocol fees from L2 and burn the tokens on the Uniswap mainnet . The proposal will include V2 and V3 protocol fees on the eight new L2 chains. Fees on each chain will go to the TokenJar on the respective network, then will be bridged back to Uniswap. Uniswap rolled out its fee switch gradually, while monitoring the available fees. The initial fee switch started with selected V3 pools on Ethereum. The additional burns led to a switch of value for Uniswap, with more users returning to the Ethereum mainnet. The burn system can also take fees in multiple different tokens and convert them for UNI burns. This may further boost the market value of UNI. The smartest crypto minds already read our newsletter. Bittensor price breaks out of falling wedge pattern: How high can TAO go?

  vor 6 Monaten

Bittensor (TAO) has quietly returned to the spotlight after weeks of compressed price action and growing technical tension. The TAO price has broken out from a falling wedge pattern on the 4-hour timeframe, a structure that often signals the end of a corrective phase. Bittensor price chart analysis | Source: TradingView This breakout has shifted short-term sentiment from cautious to constructive, as buyers defended key support levels with conviction. Notably, the move did not happen in isolation, as it followed a prolonged period of consolidation near the lower boundary of a broader descending channel. That base-building phase allowed selling pressure to cool while stronger hands gradually absorbed supply. As a result, the breakout carries more weight than a typical short-lived bounce. Bittensor (TAO) price analysis Bittensor (TAO) price has been trading well below its all-time high, reflecting a long correction. However, despite the drawdown, price action over recent weeks suggests that downside momentum has weakened meaningfully. The support around the $163 to $165 zone has repeatedly held, forming an accumulation shelf that traders have been watching closely. Each dip into this area has been met with steady buying rather than panic selling. The falling wedge breakout adds confirmation that buyers are regaining control, at least in the short term. Falling wedges typically form when sellers lose strength over time, even as the price continues to drift lower. When price breaks above the upper boundary, it often marks the start of a recovery leg rather than the end of a rally. That is exactly the setup TAO is now presenting. If momentum continues and broader market conditions remain stable, the structure supports a continuation move higher. The key resistance levels to watch in the short term The first area of interest sits near the mid-range of the broader descending channel. This zone represents the first real test for the breakout, as previous rallies stalled there. If the token breaks here it would open the door toward the descending resistance near the $230 to $240 region. That level aligns with previous rejection points and carries strong technical significance. From current levels, a move into that range would translate into a gain of roughly 25% to 40%. Such a move would be well within reason, given the size of the wedge and the duration of consolidation. However, the upside move is not guaranteed, and momentum must be sustained to keep the recovery thesis intact. A failure to hold above broken resistance could turn the breakout into a false signal. If price slips back below the wedge structure, confidence in the bullish setup would weaken quickly. In that case, attention would shift back toward lower support zones. The risk factors that could slow the rally While the technical picture has improved, TAO is still trading below key long-term moving averages on the higher timeframes, suggesting that the broader trend remains cautious rather than fully bullish. Also, the short-term strength does not automatically translate into a long-term trend reversal. Wider market conditions also matter, especially Bitcoin’s price movements and overall risk appetite. A sharp downturn across the crypto market could cap TAO’s upside regardless of its internal structure. That said, the current setup favours patience. The TAO price is no longer showing the same aggressive selling pressure seen earlier in the year. Instead, it is behaving like an asset in recovery mode. If buyers continue to defend support and push the price higher step by step, the breakout could evolve into something more meaningful. For now, TAO appears to have room to climb, as long as the structure it has built remains intact. Oil Price Risks: How Crucial US-Iran Talks Could Stabilize Volatile Energy Markets in 2025

  vor 6 Monaten

BitcoinWorld Oil Price Risks: How Crucial US-Iran Talks Could Stabilize Volatile Energy Markets in 2025 WASHINGTON/DUBAI, March 2025 – Diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran represents a pivotal development for global energy markets, potentially steering oil price risks toward greater stability according to analysis from ING Bank. These crucial negotiations, occurring against a backdrop of persistent Middle East tensions, could fundamentally reshape supply dynamics and price volatility for the world’s most traded commodity. US-Iran Talks and Oil Price Risks: A Market Analysis Financial institution ING recently highlighted the significant implications of renewed US-Iran dialogue for crude oil markets. Consequently, market participants closely monitor every diplomatic statement. The potential easing of sanctions could reintroduce substantial Iranian barrels to global markets. However, geopolitical complexities create considerable uncertainty. Therefore, analysts emphasize cautious interpretation of developments. Historical context reveals the profound impact of Iranian oil on global supplies. Prior to sanctions intensification in 2018, Iran exported approximately 2.5 million barrels per day. Current estimates suggest exports hover around 1.5 million barrels, primarily reaching China through indirect channels. A formal agreement could potentially add 500,000 to 1 million barrels daily within months. This additional supply would significantly affect global balances. Market reactions demonstrate sensitivity to diplomatic progress. Brent crude futures exhibited notable volatility throughout recent negotiation phases. For instance, prices dropped 3% following initial positive signals in February 2025. Conversely, they surged 4% after subsequent diplomatic setbacks. This price sensitivity underscores the market’s fragile equilibrium. Geopolitical Context and Energy Market Implications The current diplomatic initiative emerges from broader regional stabilization efforts. Middle Eastern nations increasingly pursue economic diversification strategies. Simultaneously, global energy transitions accelerate. These factors create complex incentives for both Washington and Tehran. Moreover, European energy security concerns following recent conflicts add urgency to negotiations. Several key factors influence the negotiation landscape: Nuclear program limitations remain the primary US concern Regional security guarantees feature prominently in discussions Sanctions relief mechanisms require detailed implementation frameworks Timing considerations affect both political and market dynamics Comparative analysis reveals distinct market scenarios. The following table outlines potential outcomes: Scenario Iranian Supply Increase Price Impact (Brent) Timeframe Comprehensive Agreement 800,000-1,000,000 bpd -8% to -12% 6-9 months Partial Understanding 300,000-500,000 bpd -3% to -5% 9-12 months Negotiation Breakdown No change or decrease +5% to +10% Immediate Expert Perspectives on Market Fundamentals ING analysts emphasize the interconnected nature of global energy markets. Specifically, they note that Iranian supply represents just one variable in complex equations. OPEC+ production decisions continue to influence prices substantially. Additionally, global economic growth projections affect demand forecasts. Furthermore, strategic petroleum reserve releases by consuming nations create additional market variables. Technical analysis reveals important support and resistance levels. Brent crude currently tests the $78-$82 range that has contained prices throughout early 2025. Breakouts in either direction could signal sustained moves. Trading volumes indicate heightened institutional interest. Open interest in options markets suggests growing hedging activity against geopolitical events. Historical Precedents and Future Projections The 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action provides relevant historical context. Following that agreement, Iranian exports increased by approximately 1 million barrels daily within twelve months. However, subsequent US withdrawal in 2018 reversed those gains. Current negotiations seek more durable arrangements. Lessons from previous experiences inform both diplomatic and market approaches. Long-term energy transition trends create additional complexity. Global oil demand growth projections show gradual slowing. The International Energy Agency forecasts peak demand around 2030. Consequently, producers face strategic decisions about resource development timing. This context influences negotiation positions for both parties. Regional dynamics further complicate the situation. Gulf Cooperation Council members maintain substantial spare production capacity. Saudi Arabia alone can deploy over 2 million barrels daily if needed. This capacity provides market buffers but also creates competitive considerations. Regional relationships will inevitably affect implementation of any agreement. Global Economic Impacts and Risk Management Oil price stability carries significant implications for worldwide economic health. Central banks monitor energy costs closely due to inflationary effects. Consumer spending patterns respond to gasoline price fluctuations. Manufacturing and transportation sectors exhibit particular sensitivity. Therefore, reduced volatility benefits broader economic planning. Several industries face direct exposure to oil price movements: Airlines typically hedge fuel costs but remain vulnerable Chemical producers rely on petroleum feedstocks Agricultural operations face fertilizer and transportation costs Consumer goods companies experience packaging and logistics impacts Financial markets have developed sophisticated instruments for price risk management. Futures contracts on major exchanges provide hedging mechanisms. Exchange-traded funds offer retail investor access. Options strategies allow customized risk profiles. These tools help market participants navigate uncertainty. Conclusion US-Iran diplomatic engagement represents a crucial factor for global oil price risks throughout 2025. Successful negotiations could enhance market stability through predictable supply increases. Conversely, diplomatic setbacks might exacerbate existing volatility. ING’s analysis highlights the interconnected nature of geopolitical developments and energy markets. Market participants should monitor negotiations while maintaining diversified risk management approaches. Ultimately, oil price trajectories will reflect both diplomatic outcomes and broader economic fundamentals. FAQs Q1: How quickly could Iranian oil return to global markets following an agreement? Industry analysts project initial increases within 3-6 months, reaching full potential within 9-12 months, depending on infrastructure readiness and contractual arrangements. Q2: What are the main obstacles to a comprehensive US-Iran agreement? Key challenges include verification mechanisms for nuclear limitations, regional security guarantees, sanctions relief sequencing, and domestic political considerations in both nations. Q3: How do US-Iran talks affect OPEC+ production decisions? OPEC+ members would likely adjust production quotas to accommodate additional Iranian supply, aiming to maintain price stability through coordinated market management. Q4: What other factors influence oil prices besides US-Iran diplomacy? Major factors include global economic growth, OPEC+ decisions, non-OPEC production, inventory levels, refining capacity, dollar strength, and alternative energy adoption rates. Q5: How can investors hedge against oil price volatility related to geopolitical events? Common approaches include futures contracts, options strategies, energy sector ETFs, diversified commodity exposure, and investments in companies with natural hedging through integrated operations. Ethereum Price Prediction: Bulls Defend Support, Eyes on $2,150

  vor 6 Monaten

Ether’s rebound turned into a tug of war, with two analysts pointing to nearby levels that could decide the next move. One chart keeps the upside “choppy” under $1,996, while another redraws micro support at $1,964 to $2,030 and flags $2,150 and $2,215 as the next hurdles. ETH rally stays choppy as analyst flags $1,996 ceiling Ether traded near $1,955 on the ETHUSD 30 minute chart after a rebound that the analyst behind Man of Bitcoin called uneven. In a post on X, the account said it reads the move as “wave c of 3” and set an “ideal” upside target near $1,979. Ethereum U.S. Dollar 30 minute chart (ETHUSD, Binance). Source: Man of Bitcoin on X (@Manofbitcoin) However, the post added that the setup stays vulnerable while price remains below $1,996. That level sat just above the latest swing, and the analyst warned the pattern could still break lower if ETH cannot reclaim it. On the chart, a higher resistance line appeared near $2,145, while a lower horizontal level marked $1,755 as a key downside zone. The same chart also showed Fibonacci markers, including 0.786 at $1,832.40 and 0.887 at $1,600.83, as deeper levels that could come into focus if selling resumes. ETH rebound redraws micro support as higher resistances come into view Ether’s rebound on the ETHUSD 30 minute chart showed a sharp recovery from a recent swing low, according to analysis shared by More Crypto Online on X. The analyst said the structure forced an adjustment to near-term support, placing the micro support band between $1,964 and $2,030 as the zone price needs to defend to keep the short-term structure intact. Ethereum U.S. Dollar 30 minute chart (ETHUSD, Index). Source: More Crypto Online on X The same chart mapped a sequence of impulsive waves off the low, with price pushing through prior congestion before stalling near a mid-range resistance line. As a result, the analyst marked $2,150 and $2,215 as the next resistance areas to monitor on any continuation attempt. Those levels aligned with prior reaction zones and projected extensions on the chart. Below the market, the chart highlighted deeper downside references if the rebound fails. A broader support shelf sat near $1,820, marked by the 78.6% retracement, while lower extensions clustered near $2,215 to $2,398 on the upside and $1,600 on deeper downside scenarios. The structure framed the move as a developing advance with defined risk below the micro support band.
